Soccer night

A late night watching the France-Uruguay game, a 0-0 yawner.  It's a wonderfully multicultural group we have at IIASA; India, Senegal, Sweden, South Africa, Germany, the U.S., Finland, Russia, South Korea, China, Canada... and that's only the people who were more or less within arm's reach of me where I was sitting.  Most people seemed to be rooting for Uruguay, some because they were the underdog, some for anticolonial reasons... but neither side could score a goal, the ball mostly just bounced around in the middle of the field.  It was a very fun evening nevertheless, at a pretty decent bar just down the street from the guesthouse.  The IIASA group took over perhaps five tables; there may have been 25 or even 30 of us at peak, I don't know.  We will be back.
